The volume brings together essays written over five years and on different occasions — some previously published as contributions to books, journals or conference proceedings, others appearing here for the first time. The work of Massimo Dolcini is at the centre of these reflections, yet this is not a monograph. Starting from Dolcini’s practice, the scope widens along both a temporal and spatial axis, drawing in other stories and perspectives. Particular emphasis is placed on the significance, for Dolcini, of his encounters with Albe Steiner and Michele Provinciali, and of their work at the CSAG in Urbino — in the conviction that this context offers a deeper understanding of Dolcini’s figure, both in terms of his social and political commitment and the graphic language he developed.
